SPOTLIGHT PROJECTS:

GOLFBC GROUP

British Columbia, Canada

A collective of several top golf facilities in Western Canada including Nicklaus North, Mayfair Lakes, Olympic View, The Bear and the Quail at the Okanagan, and Gallagher’s Canyon, GolfBC Group hired Lobb + Partners to review its key courses with an eye to improvements in playability, strategy and sustainability, while maintaining the vision of the original designers.

WOKING GOLF CLUB

Woking, England

One of the most notable heathland courses around London, Woking was designed by Tom Dunn in 1893. Lobb + Partners was hired to present a new design concept for the club’s 16th hole, which struggled with drainage issues. The new hole opened in 2014 to positive response from the club: “Reaction to the new sixteenth has been extremely positive. It feels as though it could have been part of the course for many years, which is a big compliment at a club like this.”

ISLE OF PURBECK

Dorset, England

Working directly with owners David Suruki and Kathy Tatar, Lobb + Partners undertook a long-term plan for this heathland course. As the course’s superintendent, David Langheim said: “It’s a massively ambitious project with huge scope and potential. We want to create a sort of heathland links masterpiece, to bring back the history and bring this ground to life again.”

HUNTERCOMBE GOLF CLUB

Henley-on-Thames, England

A classic designed by Willie Park Jr. more than a century ago, Lobb + Partners was hired to assist in a long-term strategy that would reintroduce some features lost over time. With an eye on the course’s history, the goal is to restore the scale to the club’s bunkering. “Our traditional golf club has carefully considered the selection for our consulting golf course architect and determined that Lobb + Partners were best suited,” noted the club’s Greens Chairman Muir Parker.
